MARIE&BOLETTE + PAULINA (2022)

In what way can photography be used to explore the body as both the object and the subject, asgender identity and stereotypes?

This series is rooted in the private photographs made by women´s rights activist and photographer Marie Høeg (1866-1949) and Bolette Berg (1872-1944). Paulina was commissioned by The National Museum of Photography in Norway to reimagen these private images. It is not a question of innovative art, but about reproducing something that is already important in a historical context and showing it in a new light. This is a staged photomontage and it is there to challenge the rigid frame of the photographic structure.
The one thing these photographers had in common is that they all used performing for the camera as a way of working with the image.
