The concept of ‘the others’ is fundamental for humanity, to find the difference in oneself in relation to the outside world. Many queer, lesbian, gay and transgender people have experienced being seen and treated as the other. In this series Paulina invites the queer community in Norway to perform in front of her lens. Her studio acts as a safe space where new representations of gender and orientation are constantly emerging. Our brain loves patterns and similarities, and this is how we analyse the world around us. Being the other is not always a bad thing, as some of us would like to stand out and can say proudly: “Us, the others”. Seen from an aesthetic point of view, we can perhaps acquire knowledge, and create the opportunity for a colourful dialogue within gender issues, cultural identity and the relevance of art in social change.
